How To Promote Your Beatboxing Without A Website

Ok your a beatboxer and you wanna play out. You are part of an internet community but you dont have your own website so you kind of feel your not legitimate. But you are legitimate and in the day and age of websites its hard to get past that illusion. I did experiments with my shows and found out people still wanted to come, contact me and I could still get my music out there without a website. This is a list of things that you can do without awebsite to increase your value as a beatboxer.

1. What To Do

Go to every open mic in the city for a month. Start a mailing list and gather a mailing list of about a hundred or more. While your at the open mics people will start asking you to perform with them. after you perform with them on their nite when done walk around the club and ask people to sign your emailing list. also at every open mic ask the waitstaff or bartender for the contact person of the booking agent.

2. Secure a venue

After a month maybe two of this, now your ready to book a gig. Find a cafe/bar that holds maybe 50 - 100 people that has people that go by there regularly I would reccommend you try cafes or bars you have rocked at open mics. reason being, you have their contacts. (Always start with what you have. You will find that what you need will come later on in the game.) Book the show one month in advance. here is the reason:

3. Promotions - Press releses/email lists/flyers/posters

You will send press releases to all your local papers. You call two people in each newspaper a writer and the person in charge of the listings of events. They all need this info a month before the show. and you send a press release to them once a week. Two weeks before the show is when flyers for your solo show should be finished. Now your first show may not be glossy flyers but make a nice black and white on cardstock flyers. either way spend no more than $60 for the flyers. make a about 10 posters. First place a stack of flyers at the venue and a poster. Then go to every record store and place a stack there. and ask if you can hang your poster. If you go to church ask the reverend or preacher or whatever to ask after he his done preaching if he could ask the church goers to support this very positive performance you are doing. ( This only works really if you are in a cafe a preacher will more likely support a cafe performance.)still keep going to open mics and gathering emails from everyone Two weeks before the gig send an email to your list saying when you will be performing and all that good stuff. Describe your show. 4 days before the show send out another reminder about the gig.

4. The Show

When the show day comes, get there 30 min early. See if you can record the show and video it as well. Greet people when they come. Say hello how are you. Why do this It is very important for you in the beginning to know every aspect of your show and the show starts with a pleasent atmoshere at the door. Later you can get someone else to this but it is good to always know everything obout the business of performing. after your great performance is over, Go to the front door to one get air but two to meet and greet the people who attended. They will thak you and sometimes people you invited will bring friends and then you say nice to meet you. glad you enjoyed the show. Would you like to be on my mailing list? They more often than not will say yes. after the meet and greet go deal with your business of collecting your money from the venue. Once that is done and all are happy the show is done.

This is just a beginning for your first show. There is so much more and beatboxers need to be armed with a lot of knowledge about the business including me. I will be writing more about this as well and welcome people to bring their experience of this to the table. I just want people who have no site to know that you can do this and without a website To many people start with a website first and then perform. you should perform and then start a website. because if you do it this way You will have a following. that is in your community which is what you need more than say international love from beatboxers. lways remember its the audiance that pays your rent not the beatboxers online.
